Ball valve is a type of pipeline shut-off valve designed to block the flow of liquid or air in open/closed mode. Its design provides high tightness compared to gates, enables operation with media containing hard abrasive particles and frequent switching of states manually or with an automated electric drive or pneumatic drive. Varieties of ball valves in the store range

By materials:

• Bronze nickel-plated ball valves are an expensive but high-quality alternative to brass products. Bronze has better impact resistance, less susceptible to corrosion and has a longer service life for hot water supply and mineral or sea water with high salt content. Bronze pipeline fittings are used for compressor interconnection and pneumatic systems with high pressure. The oxide layer of bronze, patina, prevents metal rusting.
• Stainless steel ball valves are designed for potable products, suspensions and petroleum products. They are even stronger and not prone to oxidation by a number of aggressive substances, do not release dangerous compounds into the working environment, and have a smooth and easy-to-process surface.
• Plastic ball valves are a cheap alternative for water supply systems that do not require high-quality water and may contain rust and solid contaminants, making the installation of solenoid valves undesirable.

By design:

• Full bore ball valves are more expensive than usual due to the enlarged body, but provide better flow capacity. The size of the ball matches the diameter of the pipeline.
• Reduced bore — compact and inexpensive, but create a narrowed area for flow, causing pressure loss.
• One-piece (monolithic) — with a body cast as one part.
  
• Two-piece — body assembled from two parts and is usually non-disassemblable.
  
• Three-piece — body of three components fastened with studs, disassemblable and repairable.

Ball valve markings

The ball equipment body usually indicates:

• DN or inches for socket models — nominal passage diameter;
• 1000 WOG — maximum allowable working pressure;
• 304 or 316 as stainless steel markings

Defining DN

What does 1000 WOG mean?

WOG is the English abbreviation for “water, oil, gas”. The number 1000 next to it denotes the maximum allowable working pressure of water in pounds per square inch at a temperature of 38 °C. In units familiar to us, 1000 psi is approximately equivalent to 68.9 bars.

Considering the highest value from the operating temperature range, suppliers indicate a maximum pressure of 65 bars.

Ball valves with platform for pneumatic drive, electric drive or handle

It is important to note that the standard platform for mounting a pneumatic, electric drive or lever has different mounting flange sizes and square drive size. When choosing the assembly, ensure that the value matches exactly (for example, “F03” or “F16”). On drives, the groove for the shaft may be an octagonal “star” where the square fits, or a slot for a key.
