Rod Protection for Pneumatic Cylinder

To protect the pneumatic cylinder rod from abrasion, a bellows protection is most commonly purchased. The corrugated cover (bellows, dust boot) covers the rod and reduces the number of chips and abrasive particles that reach it. Incomplete protection is due to the "accordion" stretching along with the rod's movement, causing minor dust from the air to be drawn inside the cover and not always blown back out. Nevertheless, even so, the bellows for the pneumatic cylinder allows doubling its lifespan without repair, at least by 2 times for industries with high contamination (quartz sand, metal shavings, etc.).

Less commonly, protection refers to emergency rod locking in the form of a pneumatic block-clamp, which stops the rod if the pressure drops below 1.5 bar. The clamp releases the rod automatically when air is supplied. The safety mechanism with a stopper can prevent the pneumatic drive from moving back under load.
