Manometers for air, water, or oil. What's the difference?

An air manometer is relatively inexpensive, simple in design, and more sensitive to pressure changes. For liquid devices, besides using corrosion-resistant materials, it is typical to add pulsation compensation, as well as fill it with liquid or glycerin.

• pointer manometers for high pressure (up to 6...40 bar) — completely mechanical, very reliable and accurate. Suitable for on-site pressure indication. An inexpensive mechanical manometer is used for compressors, receivers, air regulator equipment before pneumatic tools, measuring tyre pressure, and more;
• electronic manometer-vacuometers SA-DPS can measure both above atmospheric pressure and vacuum. They also serve as air pressure sensors, converting pressure values into digital form, displaying on LED displays, and transmitting an electrical signal to a PLC controller;

Manometers for Compressors

An air compressor manometer is essential for monitoring operation and must measure the discharge pressure of the compressor unit, which is significantly higher than atmospheric. Note that the device is chosen with a 25% reserve — for a compressor 0~8 bar we recommend choosing a device with a scale of 0~10 bar. An excessively wide range is also undesirable, as this can worsen the accuracy of determining the actual pressure.

How to Choose a Manometer for Compressed Air

The scale (also the range of measured pressure) should be 25% greater than the working values. Example:

• Manometer 0-6 bar — suitable for measuring the pressure in car tyres up to 4.5 bar, spray guns, which operate at low pressure;
• Manometer 0-10 bar (atm, atmospheric) suitable for general industrial pneumatic systems and pneumatic regulator equipment, which can regulate pressure up to 8 bar;
• Manometer 0-16 bar is ideal for industrial systems 12 bar — most piston and screw compressors, laser cutting machines, etc.;
• Manometer 0-40 bar — high-pressure installations up to 30 bar, PET container blowing.

Common manometers can be divided into several types by the type of mounting:

• surface manometers (also inset or flange) — designed for embedding on the front panels of automation cabinets, compressors, refrigeration dryers;
• instrumental manometers with axial connection have a nozzle on the reverse side, located centrally, and are used to complete air preparation units, receivers;
• manometers with radial connection have a nozzle from the side and below relative to the scale, this type is convenient on pipelines;

Air Pressure Sensors

Air pressure sensors are all devices for measuring pressure. These can include:

• pointer manometers and differential manometers;
• pressure switches — devices that, when the upper pressure value is exceeded or, conversely, falls, close the contacts of the AC or DC circuit;
• pressure sensors — piezoelectric, strain gauge or magnetostrictive devices that create a digital or analogue signal corresponding to the pressure;
• pressure sensor for screw compressors — is a specialised enhanced type of sensor that can withstand a pulsating high pressure 0-16 atm, is resistant to compressor oil, heating, has quick response and measurement accuracy;
